What We Believe

Our Father God

There is only one God, the Creator of the heavens and the earth. He is not only our King who we worship but our Father who wants a relationship with us. He eternally exists in three persons – Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ

He is the Son of God who came to show us an example of life and love. The Son of God who came to die on a cross to redeem man back to God. He proved He could conquer death with His resurrection and then He ascended with the promise to come back again.

Our Comforter and Guide, the Holy Spirit

He is one with the Father and the Son, He serves as our comforter – as our advocate and guide. He comes to indwell the believer when they are baptized into Jesus Christ.

Our Playbook, the Bible

The Bible is the perfect Word of God without error or mistake. It is divinely inspired and we believe that it comes directly from the mind and mouth of God. It was written for our edification, encouragement, correction, and guidance so that we might understand God’s truth and love.

Our Current Position

We are all sinners in need of a Savior. We have all sinned and are unworthy except for the Grace of God. Without Jesus, in our current position, we are lost.

Our Need for Forgiveness

Forgiveness is available to all through Jesus. It is offered when one surrenders to Jesus as their Lord and Savior, repents of their sin and is baptized into Jesus Christ.

Our Greatest Need, Salvation

Salvation cannot be bought or earned. It is a free gift from God. Grace is God’s unmerited favor and has made salvation available to all who choose it through Jesus. It is accepted through belief in Jesus as God’s Son, through confession of that belief, through genuine repentance of sin, through baptism (immersion) into Jesus death, burial and resurrection, and through faithfulness to the Lord and his Word.

Our Brothers and Sisters, the Church

The Church is the body and the bride of Christ. It’s not the building we meet in – it’s WE who meet in the building. A living, growing, vibrant family of believers who live in spiritual community in service to the Lord.

Our Eternal Future

We believe people were created by God to live forever. It’s His desire that we live with Him in heaven. The truth is there are only two eternal destinies. Heaven is waiting for the true believer in Christ, and Hell is waiting for those who have rejected Jesus and the truth of God’s Word.

ABOUT BAPTISM

Baptism is a positive command. All believers are candidates for baptism. Christ said, “Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved” (Mark 16:16). Anyone who is willing to repent of their sins, and confess their belief in Jesus, should be baptized (Matthew 28:19, Acts 2:38-39). Depending on whom you ask you will hear dozens of different traditions, teachings and opinions about the subject of baptism. Even though there are multiple opinions, there is only one truth that really matters—the truth revealed in the Bible. On the authority, subject, action and design, the Scriptures are plain. Holy Scripture consistently uses the word baptizo, which means “immerse’. Hillcrest strives to model itself in accordance with the Scriptures.
